Getting So CLOSE!!

As I look at my calender and see what meetings I have and my to do list to finish my summer internship, I am reminded daily of the little "leave for España" that I have written in my calender. The excitment is nearly unbearable right now as I see photos of friends from school in Ireland, Ecuador, and off on their summer vacations. I'm currently interning at H.D. Smith in Springfield so thankfully I am learning a lot and it is keeping me preoccupied so I'm not constantly thinking about my future trip. 

In other news, I said in my last blog post that I would discuss what my project is while I am over in Madrid. I plan to study mass media in Spain and get a more personal experience with the media over there compared to the United States. My freshman year I took a civilization in Spain class and researched about mass media in Spain. I decided to continue on with this project by asking opinions of Spaniards and see how they feel about their mass media. My ultimate goal is to know first hand how Spaniards actually feel about their mass media. 

Until then, I will wait anxiously for the trip and figure out financials!!

New Adventures in Madrid

The Program 

August. About 6 months. That soon and I will be departing for four weeks to Madrid, Spain to embark on a trip of my life time. Today has been one of those days that I realized I am very excited to be traveling and experiencing this world outside of Jacksonville, Illinois for a little while. Although I do have my hesitations of why I don't want to go, I know that this trip will be one for the memory books and I cannot wait to make those memories and then share them with my family, friends, and other loved ones whom I will miss very dearly while I am abroad. 

Since I was in eighth grade, I decided that I wanted to become fluent in Spanish. This trip will give me the opportunity to do so. I hope to gain knowledge on the culture and become proficient in Spanish because I would eventually like to use this in my career if I am lucky enough. The Tandem-Madrid program is a month long seminar with a two-week language extensive and a two-week business seminar. With this, I will be given the opportunity to live with a host mother who will likely do my laundry, provide a bed for me, and give me an opportunity to learn more about the language and culture than I could ever receive in a classroom. I will also be able to take two day trips, walk on the Camino de Santiago and do so much more. 

I am waiting for some funding information to come through, but hopefully my next post will be an even more exciting one as I discuss what my project will be while I am abroad!!
